A rotating display of unique art work by faculty, students, and renowned visiting artists graces the walls of Griffith’s Gallery. Listen closely, and you may also hear a student tinkling the ivories on the grand piano or a group of chorus students taking advantage of the space’s great acoustics. And on opening night of a student play or dance recital, the lobby is filled with crowds of family, friends, and teachers excitedly awaiting the performance.

At St. Andrew's, students gain a second home and a school family. Residential students come from across the region and around the world and immediately connect with welcoming peers and experienced dorm parents who work conscientiously to make their transition to boarding life easier. Our vibrant residential culture offers both boarders and day students opportunities to take part in a range of fun and engaging weekend and evening activities, from movie nights and ping pong tournaments to hiking trips and excursions to Boston.

In addition to humanities and math classrooms, Stone contains our Learning Services Wing and the Rooke Library. Within Stone’s classrooms, all students take part in an essential education that views learning as a process and a journey. While students ultimately emerge from St. Andrew’s with knowledge of a variety of subjects, individual courses focus on in-depth understanding of a topic vs. a surface understanding of many things.

Most of our dorm rooms are doubles with a few singles and triples also available. Rooms are fully furnished and ready for our students to make them their own. Each dorm is headed by dorm parents who foster a safe and fun environment for all residents, helping students develop practical life, social, and community-living skills. Dorm parents also organize regular fun activities and gatherings for residents (midnight pancakes, anyone?). They are aided by student proctors, returning residential students with demonstrated leadership skills who offer mentorship and support to their peers.

Our historic Chapin Chapel serves as a meeting space for our middle school and a venue for small-scale presentations and ceremonies. It is also the space through which our seniors walk prior to crossing the stage at Commencement. Their journey through the Chapel symbolizes the commitment our students will make to carrying the Chapin tradition of service, action, and inclusion forward as they enter the next phase of their lives.

St. Andrew’s Middle School is a small, structured, and supportive program for grades 6 through 8. Faculty work with students on academic content, while at the same time developing students’ study skills and organizational strategies. As a result, students become independent learners, increase their sense of self-esteem, and gain confidence in their abilities. Within Hardy Hall, we always emphasize a growth mindset. When our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders tell us they can’t do something, we remind them: You can’t do it yet.

The design of our campus was guided in large part by the vision of Frederick Law Olmsted, the renowned landscape architect who in the early 1900s revolutionized the art of landscape design. His firm created designs nationwide for many public and private grounds, including St. Andrew’s. Olmsted and his colleagues sought to make each of his designs unique by rooting them in the special qualities of each individual site they worked on. It is apt that his design philosophy so closely mirrors our approach to education at St. Andrew’s — an approach that, first and foremost, considers and amplifies each student’s natural gifts.

The library catalogs more than 12,000 books, periodicals, videos, reference materials, and ebooks, with our librarian serving as reference and research support for our faculty and students. Two meeting rooms and a sitting area overlooking a garden with bird feeders make the library a popular spot on campus for study and reflection. It is a beautiful space to do homework, take part in a book club or study hall, pick up a good book recommended by our librarian, or find some quiet alone time.
